It’s so difficult finding yourself a go-to eyeliner. There are so many different formulas on out there, including pencil, crayon and liquid liners. One of the newest trends to hit the beauty community is gel eyeliner. Gel liner is a creamy gel texture that is very soft and pigmented, and generally comes in a small pot.
Colourpop is known for their pigmentation and affordability so when I saw their Crème Gel Colour Eyeliner, I jumped all over it. Doing my research on the product I discovered a lot of controversy and different opinions. I purchased the eyeliner and have reviewed it below!
- Product: Crème Gel Colour
- Shade: Swerve
- Finish: Matte
The Colourpop Crème Gel Colour arrived in a pretty, but basic white box with silver holographic strips. The eyeliner is inside a cute, small, transparent jar, with a white screw-on lid, and Colourpop written on top in holographic silver.
The jar is a little too small to hold in your hand when using, but the upside to this is it’s very handy to travel with. I found the thickness of the jar a little misleading. It looks as though there is more product than what you actually receive. The jar holds 3.0g/0.11oz of product, which is a standard amount.
Applying the liner to my lid was difficult. It’s advertised as “provides ultra smooth application without tugging or pulling”, but I experienced the complete opposite. The liner was very thick and cakey when first applied. It was kind of challenging to blend out without smudging it all over my eyelid. The pigmentation was also slightly disappointing as it was very dull. I did have to apply two layers to create the intense, dramatic colour that I was aiming for. The texture of the liner was very smooth and creamy, and didn’t bleed when applying it to my lid as most other liners do.
Once I had perfected the wing-eye, I went out to dinner with friends and was busy chatting and laughing. Half-way through the night, I checked on the Colourpop Crème Gel Colour liner… OH MY GOD, it had smudged and transferred all over my lid. I attempted to tidy up the mess but it wasn’t coming off. After a struggle and wiping half my foundation off, I finally cleaned the smudged mess from my face.
Understandably some eyeliners smudge and transfer a little after time, but this was ridiculous, especially because Colourpop advertise it as “long-wearing formula”
Colourpop is a PETA approved cosmetic company. They have come out, announcing that they and their parent company Seed Beauty are 100% cruelty-free and that they only test their products on humans. They have also announced that almost all their products are vegan, including the Colourpop Crème Gel Colour.
Colourpop doesn’t specify if their products are Dermatologist tested, but they do note that they don’t put any harsh chemicals in their products.
I purchased the Colourpop Crème Gel Colour for $8.00 AUD, which is reasonably cheap for a gel eyeliner, compared to the Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Pot Liner which retails for $16.90.
Is it worth the buy? No, I am really disappointed. I will not be buying this again because, I don’t want to constantly check my eyeliner for smudges or transfers all night.
I had always wanted to try this Colourpop liner, and their No Filter Foundation that I reviewed earlier this month, but they have been HUGE disappointments. A few more Colourpop product reviews will be coming soon, so hopefully they can change my mind.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and questions on this product, leave it below in the comments.
