We’ve created this new house/apartment checklist to:
- Save your time.
- Make your life just a little bit easier.
- Help you turn your new HOUSE into your own customized HOME faster!
5 Essential Items You Must Have for Your New House – Checklist.
1. A Toolbox.
You never realize how important a toolbox is until you buy a piece of flat-pack furniture that doesn’t come with an allen key or screwdriver.
You’ll need tools for so many tasks:
- Measuring walls to make sure the fridge fits.
- Hooks and nails for any minor repairs to decking, or hanging paintings.
- A trusty screwdriver for when a door handle needs some TLC.
PLUS they come in all different colors (mines pink), so not only will they be handy, you can buy a kit to match your style and your new home!
One last tip is to find a safe storage place for your toolkit and never leave them lying around the house, just in case you have children who like picking up shiny sharp nails or heavy hammers.
This CARTMAN Orange 39-Piece Tool Set on Amazon contains the tools needed for most small repairs around the house.
2. Cleaning Supplies.
Cleaning supplies are often overlooked and forgotten, but you absolutely NEED them on your new house/apartment checklist. A new build may not require them as urgently as an already existing home.
As much as we’d like the previous owner to leave the place squeaky clean, sometimes it’s not going to happen. Expect the worst and hope for the best.
Here are some of the essentials:
- Vacuum cleaner.
- All-purpose cleaner.
- Dish soap.
- Widow cleaner.
- Tile & Grout cleaner.
Don’t forget to invest in some good microfiber cloths to make your life a whole lot easier. You can get a pack of 24 for a good price here on Amazon. I can’t even count how many of these cloths I have around the house. They’re AMAZING for dusting and polishing, especially bathroom mirrors!
3. Bathroom Essentials.
Breaking a sweat while moving house is unavoidable. The same goes for cleaning and light renovations with your toolkit. You’re going to end up in the shower or bath to give yourself some well deserved “me” time.
Every new house/apartment checklist needs bathroom essentials such as:
- Toilet paper (most importantly).
- Rubbish bin.
- Shower curtains.
If you don’t have them yet, it’s time for some shopping! If you already have them make sure you pack them and label them on your “tracking your packing” list, which is number 5 on the 5 essential items you must-have for your new house – Checklist.
4. Curtains & Lightbulbs.
Some things don’t always come included in a new house, curtains and lightbulbs being two of the more important ones.
The last thing you want is neighbors or strangers walking by and being able to look through your windows. If your new house/apartment doesn’t have curtains included, make sure to put them on your first home essentials checklist.
Lightbulbs may not seem important during the day, but they are necessary at night time. Also, keep a few extra bulbs in the closet, and they will come in handy later on.
5. A Tracking Your Packing List.
A tracking your packing list is going to save you A TON of time. Start by making a list of everything you pack and the items that you’ve packed together.
When your list is complete, you’ll know exactly what you have, where it is, and what you’ll need when creating your new home essentials checklist.
Additionally, try to pack things that go together, such as all kitchenware in one box. When you start putting plates with coathangers, you’ll find it a lot harder to unpack when moving into your new house.
