Let’s get one thing straight. Protein powders are not going to turn you into the hulk or some bodybuilding gym junkie. Combined with the correct diet and workout schedule, yes, protein can promote the growth of lean muscle mass.

There is a reason that bodybuilders use protein powders, and it’s to add extra protein to their diets without having to eat a 200g chicken breast! Protein powders are much more affordable and convienent than cooking up a feast.

There’s no cooking, prep work, or a whole lot of washing up, and in a busy modern lifestyle, this can save anyone a whole LOT of time. 

Many people don’t actually use protein powders to get big muscles and gain weight, they use it to lose weight! This right here tells us just how versatile protein powder can be.

I want to dive a little deeper into the topic of protein and weight loss just to give you an idea of how it all works.

Think 10 years ago. Protein powders were only for gym junkies who wanted to pack on muscle mass, right?

Now, more and more people are realizing it’s weight loss benefits. Research has shown that protein can help you lose weight and keep it off.

Increasing your protein shake can work as an excellent appetite suppressant. You will be less likely to crave snacks/junk food.

As well as aiding in weight loss, many plant based protein powders are packed with essential nutrients for your body.

They’re also friggen delicious! I have no cravings after drinking my morning shake.

Why Plant Based Protein?

Plant based protein powders are my preferred option for a few different reasons that I think you can relate to.

  1. Plant based proteins are generally a more healthy option as far as protein powders go.
  2. They contain no dairy for those of us with some degree of sensitivity or allergy to dairy.
  3. They are created from plants which are not only packed full of nutrients but also completely natural!
  4. You get the benefits of going dairy-free!

If I had to choose between whey protein and plant protein… I will always take the latter.

2. PlantFusion Protein Powder

PlantFusion protein is number two on the list.

Its price comes in relatively good for the quality of product, however there are some consumers that are not huge fans of the flavour.

Charging in as number one on the list is the Orgain Organic plant based protein powder. Orgain is an organic product with absolutely zero artificial ingredients in sight, no nasties!

Although some consumers find the taste of this protein not the best, the majority LOVE IT, and keep going back for more. 


This one’s also great for a busy lifestyle as well as being a clean, and artificial ingredient free beast.

Another awesome perk of this plant protein is that it contains only 1g of sugar and 3g of carbs.

Every protein powder has a difference in ingredients, taste, and quality. So be careful because some may taste amazing but are sweetened with high amounts of sugar, or artificial sweeteners (Always read label).

I’ve also had a few all powders that taste like chalk with a muddy consistency which taught me to read reviews!

Finding the balance between natural ingredients, great taste, and high quality is a must when choosing a plant based protein powder.

The high quality ingredients will ensure you’re getting the most benefit for your money, and you still want to enjoy the taste! 

Start with one of the two above and see how you go. I mean… it’s chocolate flavored plant based protein that has no baddies, it ticks all my boxes!

Here are a few quick recipes I use to spice things up.

Berry Protein Burst

  • 1 serve plant based protein powder.
  • 1/4 frozen berriers. 
  • 1 cup Almond/nut milk. 

Add all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth.

Chia Coconut Bomb

  • 1 serving plant based protein powder. 
  • 1 cup almond/nut milk
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup coconut cream

Add all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth.

TIP: Always add protein powder and other dry ingredients after the liquids.

DO NOT ADD POWDER FIRST, big mistake!!
